Pure Souls Learning Foundation’s 7th Annual Autism Art Exhibition:

‘The Whispering Voice”

In a world where societal understanding of neurodiversity is still evolving, the Pure Souls Learning Foundation has emerged as a beacon of hope, empowerment, and inclusion. As the organization prepares to host the 7th edition of its annual Autism Art Exhibition “My Whispering Voice”from April 2nd to April 5th, 2025, at TR Art Gallery in Ikoyi, Lagos, it reaffirms its commitment to reshaping narratives and celebrating the extraordinary talents of individuals on the autism spectrum. This event, timed to celebrate Autism Awareness Month, is not merely an exhibition; it is a movement that bridges art, advocacy, and human connection.

A Legacy of Impact: Seven Years of Empowerment

Since its inception, the Pure Souls Learning Foundation has redefined what it means to support neurodivergent individuals. Far beyond raising awareness, the Foundation has cultivated a thriving ecosystem where art becomes a tool for self-expression, education, and societal transformation. Over the past six exhibitions, the Foundation has:

Amplified Over 200 Artists: By providing a platform for creators on the autism spectrum, their work has reached audiences across Nigeria and internationally, challenging stereotypes and sparking dialogue.

Funded Critical Programs: Proceeds from past exhibitions have directly supported therapy sessions, educational scholarships, and caregiver training programs, impacting over 1,500 families.

Built Inclusive Communities: Collaborations with institutions like the Patrick Speech and Languages Centre Nathaniel Idowu Foundation, Cradle Lounge and The Zeebah Foundation have created networks of support, ensuring neurodivergent individuals thrive in educational and social environments.

Educated the Public: Through workshops, school outreach, and media campaigns, the Foundation has trained 5,000+ teachers, parents, and community leaders on autism acceptance and inclusion strategies.

These milestones reflect a philosophy rooted in dignity and potential. As Mrs. Dotun Akande, Founder of Puresouls Learning Foundation, notes: “Our mission is not to ‘fix’ individuals but to create spaces where their voices are heard, their talents recognized, and their humanity celebrated.”

“My Whispering Voice”: A Symphony of Art and Advocacy

This year’s theme, “My Whispering Voice,” invites attendees to listen closely not with ears, but with hearts. The exhibition will showcase a breathtaking collection of paintings, sculptures, and mixed-media works by nine gifted artists, including Preye Azazi, whose vibrant abstracts explore emotion through color; Funom Oti-Wenyang, a self-taught sculptor redefining texture and form; Christine Mike Nnaji’s artwork is deeply influenced by her personal experiences and interactions with the world, showcasing her strong commitment to raising awareness and fostering acceptance of neurodiversity. ChijinduChukwunomnsoIjomah is a talented artist and athlete, while Daniel AyomikunOkolie creates diverse works, ranging from abstract pieces to animations, life painting, and nature-themed artwork. Damiloju Yomi-Adeyemi dedicates numerous hours each week to painting, OdinakachuckwuOzor, a young adult, focuses on textile design. Anthony Imevbore often works from references, incorporating a unique technique into his acrylic paintings, and AwelewaEniola, a young artist from Ekiti State whose work transcends physical limitations.

The exhibition’s opening begins on April 2ndand attendees will experience:

Interactive Art Stations: Visitors can collaborate with artists on a communal mural, symbolizing unity and shared creativity.

Documentary Screenings: Short films about Autism and some of our achievements.

Panel Discussions: Experts in neurodiversity, education, and art therapy will explore strategies for building inclusive societies.

Following the physical exhibition, the artwork will transition to a virtual gallery (April 6–30), complete with tours, and possible auctions. This hybrid approach ensures global accessibility, enabling audiences from London to Los Angeles to engage with the artists’ stories.

Why This Matters: The Ripple Effect of Inclusion

The Foundation’s work transcends art. For many participants, the exhibition has been life-changing. Take Daniel AyomikunOkolie, a 19-year-old artist diagnosed with nonverbal autism. Through the Foundation’s mentorship program, Daniel discovered painting as his primary mode of communication. Daniel’s first art exhibition, DNX Creatoon, held from April 2nd to April 10th, 2022, in collaboration with Pure Soul Learning Foundation and Terra Kulture, was a significant success that showcased his unique artistic talent and earned him an award for Creativity and Innovation from Seejoy Foundation International. His art, inspired by his surroundings and created from memory, spans various styles including abstracts, animations, and nature-inspired pieces, each reflecting his extraordinary creative perspective. Daniel has had 3 successful Exhibitions. And is currently in college.

Similarly, the Foundation’s partnerships have catalyzed systemic change. In 2024, collaborations with Lagos State policymakers led to the adoption of autism-friendly guidelines in public schools, ensuring tailored support for neurodivergent students. These stories underscore a truth: when society listens to whispered voices, those whispers become a chorus of progress.

In a society often deaf to difference, “My Whispering Voice” challenges us to lean in—to recognize that every stroke of a brush, every sculpted curve, and every whispered story carries the weight of a human spirit demanding to be seen. The Pure Souls Learning Foundation has spent seven years proving that inclusion is not a charity but a collective responsibility. As the exhibition unfolds, it asks us all: Will you listen?  Art speaks where words fail. Let us amplify its voice.
